Follow the Author or…

Should I follow the author? I mean, I would hate to miss him out on tour.

When I first saw this as I scrolled through some references on my phone, I just laughed. However, the more I contemplated the things that persist…hmmm. The author is gone – the words are not.

So, what’s the point? Well there are actually usually two points:-) but who cares about cartesian coordinates?

I do and today not because they allow me to plot out data. Cartesian coordinates speak of a connection and connection has been on my mind alot these days. We are one, all of us together are one. To love another, to show compassion is to love yourself. To hate another and bring destruction is to destroy yourself. The energy of love and hate are real and they exert an impact on the giver and the receiver because the giver and receiver are connected. The energy is always there – in us – it is not created or destroyed, but it can be changed. We control that change. Our greatest power is our ability to chose how we express that energy within us to the humanity with us.

This idea of energy is a constant theme in my life due to my love of physics, gardening, and my work. The opportunity to discuss it in writing really began around 2014 , although my interest in doing so was peaked around 2012. Whether it be working, writing, learning, sharing with friends and family, or growing plants; I am grateful for each of the outlets I have for giving and receiving energy. Below is a brief update on each of them.

In the gardening arena I decided in January to buy some seeds and try my hand at edibles this year. I bought one of everything since I had never done it before and just decided to give it a whirl. The deer and rabbits eat everything in the yard so I planned a small container garden and planted a few seeds inside, then Covid-19 hit which created some extra time at home and… well I ended up with a farm on my deck.

My Sci-fi writing has been in a circling/holding pattern this last year, however, I continued to work on it in pieces. My editor is ready to do copy edits and submit to a publisher and that is exciting. Yet, I want to get a new manuscript roughed out before that step, but we will see. I appreciate the joy that both fun and revelationary writing in my science fiction gives me: first I’ve posted one of the fun excerpts from the manuscript.

The revelationary perspective is more about letting me intertwine my writing sci-fi world building and my non-fiction science interests in a duality that is neither one nor the other, but both. The following is an example of how I use my love of math and physics to enhance a written word. It is fun, allows me to give math and physics a twist while stretching the possibilities in my mind.

Friends and family are a precious component of energy exchange and I value each of them. I’ve recently reconnected with many old friends and it is the coolest thing to chat on the phone, or in a text with someone and feel you can pick up right where you left off. I’m setting my mind on some serious face-to-face visit time with friends and family as soon as possible. I’ve attached a recent photo so you will recognize me when you see me.

Finally, work which has been an unusual mix of high and low energy, shifting ideas, change, and growth these last four years culminated Friday with an email regarding the acceptance of my non-fiction science work. I’ve published other non-fiction science work, but this one has the taste of discovery. Editors will let us know the exact publication date next week. I’m excited and hope it will make a significant difference for many.
