The Way of the Establishment is not My Style

April 18, 2016

If you poke around my website you will find this lemon tree in much fuller condition. I pruned her back this spring and I am eager to see how she responds.

I took the opportunity to trim the roots while her canopy was thin. I’ve never trimmed roots on a citrus before and I worried about doing too much. Unlike the usual forgiveness of pruning errors, if I traumatize her root system beyond what she can manage she will die. I sat on the patio working the roots and wrestling over every cut as tubular strength flared to wisps of hair-thin root to tickle my fingers . . .

and I respectfully told her I was going to do my very best, then gently broke the soil away to decide what to cut and what to save.
Hmmm… what to cut and what to save?

I finished chapter twenty-two last night. That felt good and bad at the same time. Bad because I wanted to finish four chapters this week (to regain ground lost from travel the week before), but only managed my regular two. However, the good is that it is the longest chapter in the book so far. Essentially, the first or second step in the nasty – it’s over, all is lost – phase of the book which means I am getting close to the end.

Project – N took a nice turn this past week. I had a meeting with a resource and they are very excited about seeing the project move forward. Without saying too much, I can say the door is open – I could walk through it today. So, I have meetings lined up for the 21st of April with another group that will help me organize the final plan. I am excited to see what was an initial failure become the best plan for success. I am more convinced than ever that doing things in the hum drum way of the establishment is never going to be my style.

Speaking of the establishment, one of my favorite authors has a character ready to hit the streets in a battle against the “establishment” of  a futuristic 2030 Detroit. Pick up The Drafter mass market from New York Times Best Selling Author, Kim Harrison. Stop by her facebook, or blog tomorrow to wish her a Happy Book Birthday!
